I went for coffee with an old friend of the highschool variety last night. We were friends through University too, but life got in the way. I moved to Calgary, and she moved in with her now husband.
I was apprehensive about meeting her, as she has done very well for herself. She is working on a Masters degree in Computer Science, is married, has a very nice house in a good part of town, and had a baby about a year ago. Apprehensive, and jealous too, I suppose. I guess because I feel the way I do about my life at this point, I am compelled to compare myself to everyone I know as a measure of how I am doing. Since that measure seems very short for the last while, I am kind of angsty about it all.
Thankfully despite everything, and perhaps despite herself, she hasn't changed. She's still the fun loving, good hearted person that I remember. Now I just have to meet the kid. :)

Bah, don't feel compelled to compare yourself to others. You have no idea what goes on behind closed doors - just because outwardly, people "have what you want", doesn't mean that in reality they're actually happy.
